Distribution FAQ

Do It Yourself

  Q. What exactly do you provide?
  A. Higgs Communications provides digital distribution only. We put your music in the online stores such as the iTunes Music Store. We do not get involved with your physical inventory (CDs, cassettes and vinyl) at all. You keep 100% of your income from your CD/cassette/vinyl sales.

  Q.

How does it work?

  A. You are the label. You own all your music and keep all your rights. The retail store is now an oline store such as Apple's iTunes Music Store. Higgs Communications is the distributor that puts your music on the shelves at the retailer. When your music sells, they pay us and we pay you.

  Q.

What about my rights?

  A. We do not take any rights to your music. This is not a record deal.

  Q.

What does it cost?

  A.

We base our service on the publishing administration model (such as Music Services). There is a nominal set-up fee and an administration fee of 10%. Once you are online, you will receive 90% of all the income from your music that we receive. Additional services are available such as bar codes, ISRC coding and mastering.

    Q.

How often do I get paid?

    A.

Depending on the date, we get paid up to 120 days after your music sells. We pay you within 30 days of receiving the money from the online store.

    Q. Is it exclusive?
    A. Yes, but only on a per store basis. There can only be one distributor bringing a particular album to a store. Otherwise, when the album sells, how would the store know which distributor to pay?

    Q. Are you looking for any particular types of music?
    A. Yes, we are specifically looking for artists and labels with the following types of recordings:
  1. Music with TV and/or Film exposure
  2. Expired / back catalog / out-of-print recordings
  3. Original (not sample-based) Techno / House / DJ-type music
  4. Christian worship (i.e. Vineyard / Integrity / Maranatha)
