1. Shared-TLD (This list is now closed.)
   The Shared-TLD mailing list is historically significant in that it was the first discussion on the internet to explore the possibility of using multiple registrars and registries to supply domain names from within the same top level domain. It was an offshoot of the IETF's unofficial Newdom working group (unnofficial because some of the driving concepts of Newdom were controversial). Many of the Internet's key engineering decision makers subscribed to this list.
